81 Beach Street was opened in 2005, the aim being to create a great place to eat – a neighbourhood restaurant loved by the community. In our first year we were named “Kent’s Best Restaurant”. Since then the business has grown considerably and in 2015 The Granville in Canterbury was acquired and more recently, in 2017, The Coastguard at St Margaret’s Bay and we’re now on the lookout for our fourth site.
This has led to the creation of the owner company ‘Beach Street Restaurants Ltd’. From just 3 of us, opening that door for the first time in 2005, to the 85 of us working here today, our purpose has remained the same. A passion for great food, great service, and a belief that the only way to achieve both is by the best people working together. These three things have formed the bedrock of our success to date.
We see a huge opportunity for BSR to grow and become one of the leading Restaurant Groups in Kent.

We have been working hard on what will be the ‘new normal’ for the foreseeable future across our restaurants. Please be assured our only goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment for our customers and our team, so that everyone can relax and enjoy the hospitality we’re known for. We have given careful consideration to every decision we have made in navigating our way through this new normal. Please bear with us, as things may take longer, we may have to make changes – but this is a new journey for all of us.
On each of our venue’s websites you will find a shortened version of the key differences you may notice when you visit us, if however you would like to read our full Company COVID Policy please download it here.
81 Beach Street
The menus at 81 Beach Street reflect the wonderful range, diversity & quality of food served on a daily basis.
Put together by one of the most experienced and talented kitchen teams in the area, there is always a great choice of fresh, creative plates; meals that look as good as they taste!
The Granville has carved out an excellent reputation for serving modern European food of the highest quality and is featured in The Good Food Guide and other major listings.
The bar serves traditional Kentish cask ale and distinctive international lagers and offers a good selection of wine by the glass.
A historic sea-side pub and restaurant in St Margaret’s Bay, near Dover, The Coastguard invites you to dive into superb food and drink while enjoying an epic view over the waves.
Britain’s nearest pub to France, the Coastguard has kept watch on the sea-front for more than 300 years – and a recent refurbishment means you can take in those spectacular bay views in style.
