81 Beach Street was opened in 2005, the aim being to create a great place to eat – a neighbourhood restaurant loved by the community. In our first year we were named “Kent’s Best Restaurant”. Since then the business has grown considerably and in 2015 The Granville in Canterbury was acquired and more recently, in 2017, The Coastguard at St Margaret’s Bay and we’re now on the lookout for our fourth site.
This has led to the creation of the owner company ‘Beach Street Restaurants Ltd’. From just 3 of us, opening that door for the first time in 2005, to the 85 of us working here today, our purpose has remained the same. A passion for great food, great service, and a belief that the only way to achieve both is by the best people working together. These three things have formed the bedrock of our success to date.
